Happy New Year!
For this team, 2023 is an extra special year to celebrate. The year 2023 marks 25 years in business for DiMillo’s Yacht Sales! It has been wonderful serving nice people, over the years, and we look forward to many more years to come! To celebrate, we thought it would be fun to look back at our evolution, via our logos!
DiMillo’s Marina in Portland, Maine, opened it’s doors 40 plus years ago. In 1998, Chris DiMillo started DiMillo’s Yacht Sales, then known as DiMillo’s Old Port Marina & Yacht Sales, with the first location on the grounds of DiMillo’s Marina and, what was then known as, DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant.
As the business began to gain traction, growing the brokerage house as well as becoming the experts for Sabre and Back Cove, Chris purchased an existing yacht sales business called Star Island Yacht Sales with locations in Montauk and Freeport, New York. DiMillo’s operated out of those locations for a number of years before moving to the north shore of Long Island in Glen Cove, New York, where we are still located today.
You’ll see in 2012, we rebranded and got a whole new look! Plus, we added a customized burgee that has become a recognizable staple out of the water and cruising up and down the East Coast.
In 2014, Chris saw another opportunity in the Chesapeake when the Sabre and Back Cove dealer, Oxford Boatyard Yacht Sales and Sabreline of Annapolis, became available and were purchased by DiMillo’s. The new dealerships in the Chesapeake were named Acadia Yacht Sales. In 2015, the team made the decision to brand all of the DiMillo’s locations as DiMillo’s Yacht Sales with locations in Maine, New York & Maryland! This is still our logo today! Also in 2015, we welcomed DiMillo’s Marina in Kennebunk, Maine.
In late 2018, the Chesapeake team was yearning for a logo specific to their geographical location which is how the DiMillo’s on the Chesapeake logo developed. In 2021, DiMillo’s purchased the former Hinckley yard in Oxford, Maryland. This acquisition combined with our yard in West River, Maryland gave way to further specify our presence on both the eastern and western shores for the Chesapeake. This is when DiMillo’s on the Chesapeake West (for our West River location) and DiMillo’s on the Chesapeake East (for our Oxford location) were born.
The DiMillo’s Yacht Sales team started with just a few employees including Chris. Over the last 25 years, the team now consists of nearly 50 people from Maine to New York to Maryland, and is committed to providing the DiMillo’s Experience to each and every client!
